ENGINEERING MAINTENANCE MANAGER, ALUMINIUM ROLLING - UK

Working for the company Engineering Department, the purpose of this role is to coordinate the activities of the Mechanical Maintenance Department.

ENGINEERING MAINTENANCE MANAGER, ALUMINIUM ROLLING - UK

Located in Shropshire, The role will provide leadership across the Mechanical Maintenance and Reliability teams and champion asset management by use of preventative, planned and condition monitoring techniques, whilst also setting spares strategies for critical equipment and assets.

The applicant should be educated to degree level (BEng in Mechanical Engineering) and ideally possess or be working towards attaining a Master’s degree in a Mechanical Engineering related discipline.

Academic ability should be supported and exemplified by development and implementation of a preventative mechanical maintenance regime in an industrial environment and experience of working at departmental manager level or equivalent.

Being professionally registered, or working towards professional registration, with the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) to a Chartered Engineering level (CEng) would also be advantageous to the role.

MAIN TASKS & REPSONSIBILITIES

  • Working with various on-site teams to develop projects from concept to completion; including capital investment, project works and plant asset maintenance

 

    • Developing detailed 3D solid models and drawings for components and assemblies, and converting existing current 2D designs and layouts into 3D CAD technical models
  • Liaising with relevant departments to ensure drawings are correctly followed
  • Supporting project, maintenance and production teams to meet time and budget targets
  • Liaising with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Preparing site reports and other administration tasks
  • Ensuring project compliance with relevant planning, building and health and safety legislation

 

  • Designing solutions for ad hoc site issues when required

  • Carrying out evaluation of historic installations and projects

NECESSARY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • OVERALL JOB PURPOSE Working for the company Projects Department, the purpose of this role is to lead project(s) implementation and delivery from conception to operation, ensuring a seamless handover from Engineering to the company operational areas/cells. The role holder will be responsible to compile project specifications, evaluate technical solutions & suppliers, plan, execute, commission and validate the project deliverable(s) within the agreed project timeframe and budget.
    HOURS OF WORK

     

    Flexi-time based around 8.00am and 6.00pm. Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent should be aware that under special circumstances (e.g. installation, commissioning, Final Acceptance Testing, etc.) longer working hours or working over weekends/holidays might be required to fulfil the duties of the above role in line with Company policies and government legislation as appropriate.

     

     

    PLACE IN ORGANISATION

    The Project Engineer reports directly to the Engineering Manager on a day-to-day basis and ultimately to the Managing Director. The role sits within Engineering/Projects but interfaces with the Drawing Office, the Automation department as well as with the Mechanical and Electrical Maintenance departments as illustrated below.

    MAIN TASKS & REPSONSIBILITIES
    Description
    Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

    Ø Adheres to HSE regulations and guidelines while maintaining a safe working environment for internal and external personnel (i.e. visitors & contractors)

    Ø Contributes in reporting, investigating or resolving incidents, near misses and accidents reported through the company Adverse Event tool

    Ø Issues works permits according to company or departmental procedures

    Ø Conducts and reviews Risk Assessments & Method Statements for project related jobs/tasks

    Ø Assists the Principal Contractor and Principal Designer of the CDM area during project execution

    Ø Conducts and/or assists with contractor inductions

    Ø Takes appropriate actions to maintain a clean and tidy work place at all times

    Ø Evaluates energy as well as the environmental impact of projects aiming at increasing asset energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact

     

    Project Management Duties & Responsibilities

    Ø Leads on the implementation of capital investment projects from the concept through to the starting-up phase

    Ø Assists in the development of best practices, engineering standards and procedures for project specification, installation, commissioning, etc.

    Ø Troubleshoots and resolves technical problems/issues related to design, functionality, installation, commissioning and testing phases of projects

    Ø Provides technical assistance and guidance to area maintenance technicians throughout the project implementation phase

    Ø Ensures all technical and HES documentation is in place and up to date as per the agreed contractual specifications before project completion

    Ø Assists in the preparation and evaluation of conceptual engineering plans according to project specifications

    Ø Develops, reviews and assesses technical proposals for outsourcing installation activities or commissioning services

    Ø Prepares project technical and commercial comparison based on supplier offers’ evaluation

    Ø Participates in technical negotiations and advises on commercial terms & conditions discussions with suppliers

    Ø Develops and maintains project execution plans and timetables with intermediate milestones/tasks

    Ø Ensures that all the received data, drawings and documentation related to the project deliverables are complete, up to date and in place as per the agreed contractual specifications

    Ø Plans and oversees the execution of Final Acceptance Testing

    Ø In support of the engineering function you will develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated guidelines for the design and maintenance of equipment within the Mechanical Engineering function as appropriate

    Ø Manages on-site contractor/suppliers to ensure compliance with agreed risk assessments and method statements

    Ø Supports cross functional and cross departmental engineering projects

    Ø Assists in the preparation of technical justification for CAPEX projects

    Report Generation & Documentation

    Ø Prepares and communicates regular project progress/status reports

    Ø Continuously monitors, records and reports project spend

    Ø Continuously monitors, records and follows up project outstanding items

    Ø Monitors and records contractor attendance, materials spend and plant usage/movement

    Ø Reviews and issues work permits for project related jobs/tasks

    Ø Collects data and presents the results of the Final Acceptance Tests

     

    General Duties & Responsibilities

    Ø Responsible for the execution of capital or improvement projects from conception to final acceptance and handover

    Ø Manages multiple different projects at one time but has the ability to organise and prioritise workload

    Ø Maintains close contact with suppliers, attend trade shows and technical seminars to enhance knowledge and keep up with new technical and technological developments

    Ø Investigates, inquires and reviews new technologies, processes and equipment related to project implementation and execution

    Ø Champions the Technology & Innovations (T&I) initiative; develops, documents and monitors project progress

    Ø Obtains budget quotes for services, parts and equipment, raises purchase orders and CAPEX requests for project related activities and jobs/tasks

    Ø Ability to problem solve, think “outside the box”, pay attention to details and deliver under tight deadlines

    Qualifications, Experience & Skills – Essential to the Role

    Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or other technical related degree

    5-10 year of engineering experience in a similar field or industry

    Ø  Project experience with good working knowledge of project management tools and techniques

    Ø  Previous experience in machinery installation and commissioning with knowledge in mechanical, fluids, utilities, etc.

    Ø  Good working knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices is an industrial and/or manufacturing environment

    Ø  Basic working knowledge of CAD package(s)

    Ø  Computer proficiency in project planning applications including but not limited on MS Office software

    Ø  Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing

    Ø  Ability to read and understand technical writing, fluids and mechanical drawings/documentation

    Ø  Ability to understand, analyse and interpret complex technical information

    Ø  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships by collaborating with design, mechanical/electrical engineering, automation and production teams

    Ø  Ability to present research findings in clear, objective, written report form

    Ø  Basic knowledge of parts fabrication principles (e.g. machining, welding, turning, etc.)

    Ø  Working knowledge and experience of CDM regulations

    Desired Experience & Skills

    Ø  Qualified Charter Engineer (CEng) by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers

    Ø  Working knowledge of Prince2 Project Management methodology

Job Description

•Analyse the request by the customer (RFQ) or public bid and develop the technical and economic proposal for turnkey solution of battery Energy Storage System, Photovoltaic Power Plant, Microgrid and/or PCS, PMS, EMS supply.
•Prepare the sizing and technical configuration of the BESS, PV, Microgrid as best fit to RFQ or the bid.
•Provide Technical support to the Sales team in the negotiation with the customer.
•Liaise with Sales Headcount to define value proposition in the region.
•Interact with corporate engineering, R&D and purchasing department to evaluate cost, technology and to select partner and suppliers.
•Prepare the technical documentation (datasheet, technical specification, product and EPC warranties) and the cost estimation for any project in the region.
•Support Contract Manager, Legal Dept. and Sales in the definition of the scope of supply and contractual conditions (product warranty, system warranty, EPC, performance warranty, project schedule warranty) to be included in the contract.

The position will required domestic and international travels as well as frequently meeting in the Client plants/branches involved in the PV&BESS business.
